Project Overview
Project Description:
My project would be following me take my CNA class and becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. On Mondays and Wednesdays I will be participating in the class via attending labs, watching zooms, and completing the course work. I would be learning about long term care and practicing the basic skills required to take care of a resident. A few of these skills include hygiene, vitals, and communication.
Why this project?
Becoming a CNA would prepare me for my future career in the healthcare field and make me eligible for my next job working in a nursing home. Earning my CNA would make me stand out among other applicants. I am excited for all that I will learn from my senior project and cannot wait to apply what I have learned to life.
Background?
The class has a hybrid structure due to Covid-19 and will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays for roughly three months. Depending on the class material for the day, the class could take place anywhere from 4:00pm-9:00pm and the class length varies. I am starting out knowing very little about the skills a CNA are required to know and knowing nothing about how to properly take care of a resident. I do know that many jobs require you to be a registered CNA to be considered an applicant and many healthcare classes use it as a prerequisite.
How is it a stretch?
This is a stretch for me as I know very little about the basic CNA procedures and the steps required to do them properly. The instructors are very picky about how skills are completed so it is very important to study the steps and practice them. It would also be a stretch because I need to dedicate my time on Mondays and Wednesdays to attend class and time on other days to study and do the course work, it is quite the commitment.
